Alfred “Sonny” Sanders, 65, of Marion, IL, died peacefully at his home on February 13, 2021.
Sonny was born December 12, 1955 in Nashville, TN to Alfred Sanders Sr. and Dorothy (Ghee) Sanders. He graduated from the Stratford High School in 1973 and went on to complete classes at Georgia Tech, receive an A.S. in environmental technology from Vol State Community College and obtain a bachelor’s in business administration at Tennessee State University, a master’s in accounting and a J.D. from Southern Illinois University. After graduating from law school in Carbondale, Sonny went on to start his own law firm in 1995 called Sanders and Associates. He served on the Jackson County Task Force, wrote law updates and tax seminar material for the Illinois State Bar, served as vice president and president of the Jackson County Bar association, and taught Corporate Taxation in the Graduate Accounting Department at SIU.
Sonny married Wendy Martin Hogue in 2007. He moved his practice to their home in 2019, where he continued practicing law, hunting, fishing, and living a wonderful life: at a home that he loved.
Sonny is survived by his wife Wendy, sons Alex and Austin Hogue, his sister Sheri Hammer, and nieces and nephews.
