Delois Jean McKinney ~ Herrin January 20, 2022

Delois Jean McKinney was born to Frank Powers, Sr. and Ruth Cox Powers in Colp, Illinois.

Delois was baptized at an early age under the leadership of Rev. Raymond Davis, Mt. Olive Baptist Church, Colp, IL. Her graduating class was the first to integrate Herrin High School, Herrin IL in 1954. She moved to Detroit, MI immediately after graduation. She was happily married to Phillip McKinney, Sr. until his death in 1980.

She retired from the medical field and returned to Southern Illinois. She expired at her home in Herrin, IL. Rest in peace our loved one. Gone but never forgotten.

Left to cherish her memory are: two sons Phillip McKinney Jr., Springfield, IL; and Donald McKinney, Syracuse, NY; two grandsons: Brandon McKinney (Shannell), Alpharetta, GA, Kobe McKinney, Syracuse, NY; three great-grandchildren: Melanni Hollway, Autumn and Laila McKinney, all of Alpharetta GA two brothers: Frank Powers Jr (Cristeta) of Las Vegas NV, Denver Powers Sr. (Mary), two sisters: Marcella Clark and Mary Ann Powers Duncan all of Colp IL, a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends along with two close friends Freda Cathy of Detroit, MI and Herman Tyler of Herrin, IL.

Preceding Delois in death were her husband Phillip McKinney Sr., parents, and one sister, Celestine Martin.

Homegoing will be held Saturday January 29, 2022 at 12 noon. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. till noon at the Funeral Home in Carbondale.
