Fredericka “Freddie” Waddell ~ Makanda October 5, 2020

Fredericka “Freddie” Waddell ~ Makanda

Fredericka (Freddie) Waddell died on October 5th, at age 77, after having a stroke and a variety of complications. Freddie gave her family and friends the gift of 42 extra days.

Fredericka DeFabbio was born on April 12, 1943 in Syracuse, NY, and was proceeded in death by her beloved husband Donald Waddell, and her brother’s Sonny DeFabbio and Nick Defabbio.

She left behind a heck of a lot of stuff her daughter has no idea what to do with. Freddie liked to be prepared for anything and stocked up on extra small appliances, electronics, vitamins, and food. She did not believe in expiration dates.

Freddie will be sorely missed. She is survived by her only daughter Anna Waddell Schneiderman, Mike (son-in law), Kiera (granddaughter), Ethan (grandson), and Madeline (Mimi) Fagliarone (sister).

Freddie worked as an English teacher and then she married her husband Don and they moved around for his job as a Fine Arts Professor including (Eureka College, Clemson and Southern Illinois University (SIU). After moving to Southern Illinois Freddie and Don fell in love with the area and built their home on 10 acres of land where she lived until her stroke. In 1983 Freddie started Natural Health Services (before natural health was cool) consulting many people with supplements, herbal remedies, after experiencing her own health issues conventional medicine was not able to treat.

She always told the truth even if it was not what you wanted to hear.

Freddie conducted many weddings and other life events. Freddie was like an elder in the community in a modern world. She supported and counseled many people to find their true self and or purpose in life.

Freddie loved nature, and spent much time collecting rocks and crystals. Freddie was a big part of her community known by so many and often sighted in town at the Neighborhood Coop, local restaurants, and downtown Makanda.

More information to come about a celebration of life in a few weeks which will be held outdoors with social distancing.

My kindred spirit and sister of the unseen. I was with her and the crystals and stones yesterday at her home. She is still very much with us folks!!💞

I can’t even find the words to describe how gifted/extraordinary she is… One of the most wonderful human beings on the face of the earth. It’s been an absolute pleasure having been afforded the opportunity to create such great memories with her. I can honestly say that her guidance not only saved my life, but has helped me endure many hardships… I loved to hear her laugh.
